Executive Producer Mark Gordon (Saving Private Ryan, Prime, A Simple Plan) selected SHINE to design and create titles for his new series, CRIMINAL MINDS. SHINE’s conceptual approach to designing the series title was guided Gordon’s goal to graphically emphasize the profile processes used by the FBI’s Behavior Analysis Unit. The concept for the sequence was inspired by, and reflects, Russian Constructivism and the Constructivist Graphic Design movement of the early twentieth century.
Developing the title treatment was a smooth process says producer Gigi Coello-Bannon: “Shine came in at the last minute and saved the day for us. We were two weeks away from air without a main title. They dove in, with a VERY tight deadline and never buckled under pressure. Michael Riley and his team at Shine, were extremely creative and always took everyone’s notes with style and grace.”

2x :30 Titles
In this particular project I was given storyboards consisting of eight frames for what would eventually become the :30 title. Using selects I had chosen from the first four episodes, and only these 8 frames, I cropped and animated the assets and incorporated geometric elements to create a flowing Constructivist feel.
