2006

Marvel, New Line Television, and creator David Goyer selected Shine to conceptualize, design, and produce the main title sequence for BLADE, the dark, one hour comic-inspired adventure drama, now in its second season on SPIKE, starring  Kirk "Sticky" Jones and Jill Wagner.

The title sequence uses red, bloody liquid to portray BLADE. Sticky was composited into each graphic shot, creating a dramatic, cinematic sequence. Shine shot the talent against green screen and then integrated him into each image using 2d and 3d tools. The concept, created by Shine, was designed to fulfill the producers’ desire to communicate to their audience how the character of BLADE has evolved from the original trilogy.

For the Blade titles I worked directly with lead animator Cory Shaw carrying the specific goal of expediting the graphically integrated workflow.  Feeding talent selects to Cory, chosen from hours of green screen footage ,and rotoscoping characters from the pilot episodes were among a few of my responsibilities.
