In the summer of 2008, I was approached by Blake Silver to help him, and three of his college friends, cut together a pilot episode for a project they were looking to pitch to networks and studios as a web series. They had a shoe string budget and a skeleton crew. From the time we started the production to when it was completed nearly six months later, working exclusively in the evenings and on weekends, I wore many hats. As Blake and I ran into the many issues that accompany a low budget project I found myself pulling from my entire bag of tricks and went from editor, to VFX compositor, to colorist, to sound designer, to DVD Designer and Author, to Graphic Designer, and finally Online Editor as we finalized and mastered the pitch reel. ‘Boyfred’, in concept and design is a feel-good experience that captures a warm and uplifting side of the modern twenty-something. It has been an amazing experience watching a project, created by four college graduate film makers, grow into a studio level web series.
